We talked to our Wonderland Home Rep yesterday, who happens to also be a real estate agent, to try to find out how to generate more interest in our townhouse. He took a look at our pictures and suggested that we paint the interior with a more neutral color. Right now, our living room is a deep dark purple which we love, but he said most people would find it a little too out there. So painting we will do. We also plan to put our townhouse onto the rental market and see if we get any nibbles.
I've been hesitant to start my "new home" scrapbook for fears that we might have to let the new house go if we dont' sell this place by August. Austin said that we can probably float both properties for a few months if we don't sell by November (which is when the new house will be done). So that makes me feel a bit beter about things.

Paint is a surprisingly big issue with selling houses. I'm absolutely amazed at how many people don't have enough creative imagination to just imagine what the house would look like with a wall color of their choosing. I would never walk into a house and refuse to buy just based on paint color.
Now, wallpaper on the other hand, might do it. The thought of having to take down all the wallpaper, fix the wall, and then paint? No thank you!
Scott's old house was painted a lot of really cool colors and at first his realator suggested repainting but we said hell no. She said that even before the house had been shown a single time! We ended up selling to the very first people who saw it and when Scott met the husband to sign the paper work the guy even commented on the great wall colors "but too bad the wife is making me repaint!" he said.
