Today we are going to lunch with Austin’s grandparents. They are taking us to the Olive Garden to celebrate our belated birthdays. Yum. I ALWAYS get the same thing at the Olive Garden, the lunch sized chicken parmesan (although I never eat the spaghetti that comes with it) with unlimited salad and breadsticks. Yum. Can’t wait!

SO anyways, the process from here on out goes in stages. We picked our Stage 1 options, which for this round was just paying some extra money to get a plumbing rough in for the basement. Austin plans to build a theater/game/entertainment room in the basement that can be converted into another bedroom if we need to. He is VERY excited. The builder will break ground in June, and if everything goes to schedule, we should be able to move in November. At least it won’t be hot J We are very excited.
We had a showing scheduled for Saturday, and YEA the people actually came in and saw the place. We haven’t heard anything since, so no clue if they liked it or not but this was the FIRST showing. Both of us are getting tired of living like clean freaks.
Austin’s best friend Nizar just purchased a new car on Friday. He has a beautiful Acura TL in white. VERY nice, and fast too. Definite improvement over his BMW.
Other weekend news, Laura (my fabulous sister in law) had her senior high school prom on Saturday. I took her dress shopping a few weeks ago, which was fun. I love having a little sister! She’s a good kid. We went over to the in laws on Saturday to see her in her dress before she left for the evening festivities. She looked fabulous. The high school has a big event planned after the formal dance, from midnight until 5 in the morning called JAM (Just After Prom). It’s a way for the kids to be safe and still have fun but not be out and about and getting into trouble. The high school let’s the general public see the school before it starts, and it was AMAZING. So many activities, including glow in the dark mini golf, games, karaoke, bingo, carnival games, black jack, card games, roulette, and poker. SUPER fun. I wanted to go. I had put together a poster of Laura throughout the year, which was put in the hallway with all of the other graduating seniors. It was neat to see all of the posters and the direction that people went with the posters.
Anyway, good weekend. Busy. but good! Have a great week!
I was pretty sick in the first week of March, and stayed home from work for a day. Ever since then, I’ve had a pretty terrible hacking cough. Today I went to the doctor because I was getting irritated and concerned. Turns out I have walking pneumonia. I first told my doc (who I really like) that he was full of it because people who have pneumonia have to go to the hospital and are on their death bed, and I only had a cough. He explained further that it just means I have an infection of the lungs. I am now on two antibiotics, steroids, and some purple powder substance I have to inhale for the next two weeks. I have to go back for a check up, and if I haven’t improved, then I get to go in for a chest x-ray. I’m just ready and waiting for the cough to go away.
When we got home today from work, we had a message on the answering machine. Our lot was FINALLY released for sale! Wow. We talked to the builder 3 weeks ago and heard that our lot was going to be delayed until May. But I guess they sped things up. We go in tomorrow to sign our paperwork. They probably will not start construction until June, but still…progress. Our floorplan is called the Silverleaf.
We had another showing scheduled on Monday. Once again Austin raced home and tidied up and vacuumed and our place looked amazing. He booby-trapped the door, and what do you know, NO ONE SHOWED UP. What the hell. They called 2 hours before they wanted to come see it to schedule the showing and then they don’t show up? I just don’t get it.
I had a great birthday weekend. Friday night (birthday eve) I was treated to a dinner at a new restaurant called the Bonefish. It’s a fish place, and quite tasty. Saturday night, a group of us went to the ChopHouse, an upscale steakhouse in downtown Denver. Very tasty, although boy was I stuffed. Sunday night, we went over to the in-laws for an Easter egg hunt, and then dinner. Delish!
So my in-laws (who are really quite fantastic in-laws, I couldn’t be happier) had to deal with the sudden death of their kitty Andy just before Christmas. They still have one kitty, Blackie, who is 4 and who was quite lonely. Austin, Laura (the BEST sister in law EVER!) and I decided to surprise Mom with a new kitten. For the past 3 weeks I have been tracking kittens in the metro Denver area…it is a bit early for kitten season. I found a rescue shelter close to us who had some kittens and they would be available for adoption on April 11th. I had everyone mark their calendar, and on Wednesday we left work a bit early and went to see what kittens they might have.
We walked in, and they had 5 kittens. Two were long haired gray kittens, cute but we didn’t want to get a long hair. Two looks very much like Jones and George. And then there was the MOST BEAUTIFUL Siamese-looking kitten. Laura and I immediate fell in love, and I asked the cat adoption lady if we could see him. He was ADORABLE. Very active. We knew right away we wanted to take him home.
So we put Tucker (as Laura has named him) into a box, and drove him home to surprise Mom. She was surprised, and fell instantly in love. Blackie isn’t too happy about the new arrival, but he is slowly getting more accustomed to the little furry kitten running around his house.
Austin, sadly, will not let me get another kitten. My hope is that once we are in the new house, he will let me get a third kitten. With the house for sale, it’s hard to keep the house clean and have people come in for showings etc. I’m not too sure how happy Jones would be either with a new kitten running around.
Speaking of houses for sale, we had another showing scheduled on Monday, but the people never showed up. How might we know that, you ask. Good question. Austin booby-trapped the door. He put a piece of paper in the door and it was in the exact same location as it was before. Why would people schedule a showing and then NOT show up? Do they not know that we spent 2 hours cleaning and making the place look extra clean the night before? We have plenty of pictures of the house on the MLS and on the brochure, so prospective buyers should have a decent idea of what the outside and inside looks like.
So tomorrow I turn the big 29. My last year of being in my 20’s. I’m ok with turning 30…I’ve accomplished a lot and am ready to move onto the next decade in my life. Austin already gave me my present, a new camera J That’s always fun. My parents sent me my present in the mail (cash, thank you!). I think we are going out to dinner with Nizar tomorrow night, although I’m not sure where. He is not eating any meat for Lent, but luckily we all eat fish so maybe we’ll head to a fish restaurant.
That’s all for now! Happy Weekend to everyone
I also worked out this morning. One of the fitness classes I attend fairly regularly had a new release, so we learned some new exercises and I am pretty sore. Although not as sore as I will be tomorrow.
Austin gave me my birthday present early this year! It's a new sony digital camera :) The battery is charging, but I plan to test it out this weekend. Yea for new cameras.
Soon I hope to link my photos to my blog. We were in Vegas for Austin's birthday a few weeks ago and I have yet to show anyone the pictures. That is on this weekend's agenda.
Happy Friday!
