I had some blood work done a few weeks ago, and got the results a few days ago. Everything was normal. No biggie, right? Except I got a bill from the lab stating that my insurance company denied the claim based on the way the doctor coded the reasoning for the lab work, which isn't covered by my medical insurance. So, last night when I saw that, I freaked out. I don't have $800 bucks, well I do but I don't want to spend it on tests that should have been covered. Anyways, I talked to my doctors office and they will have to write a letter to the lab stating they made an error and ask the lab to re-submit the claim to the insurance company. What a pain. But...luckily I won't have to shell out that $800 bucks on something like lab work.
We've had nothing but problems with this insurance company. I've had to dispute two claims already, and have a third under way. Great West is no good. It seems they just don't cover things and wait until one disputes it and then they will pay the bill.
And being that I'm Canadian, I'm used to the Canadian Health Care system, which has it's issues but at least everything is covered and everyone has health care.

$800??!! Whoa ... that's a lot of money!
We've been frustrated with insurance lately, too. We put an extra $1500, untaxed to save 30%, into a medical account this year. We knew we'd be spending extra money on medical expenses with Scott's surgery, and we can also claim things like prescriptions, bandaids, contact solution, etc.
Every time we send in a claim to be reimbursed for an expense they deny it and want a detailed receipt, not just one from the pharmacy that says the prescription name, or whatever we give them.
It's frustrating because it's OUR MONEY! We actually have money taken our of Scott's paycheck to cover it, and they still deny it. We've been able to resubmit everything and eventually get reimbursed, but they make everything so hard.
