couches
We bought a leather sectional couch last April from Sofa Mart. We are having problems with the stuffing/foam in the couch and have had their warrenty department out for several service appointments. Unfortunately, it could never be fixed properly and last week they decided to just give us a full credit and get exchange the sectional for something else. I totally figured that we would get to the store and fine something we liked...and would cost a ton more.

Turns out...we couldn't find a thing that we liked. VERY frustrating. We really like the couch we have now, it just is really sagging. It fits our space perfectly and we love the color. Frustrating. We did find a micro fiber sectional that would work and we liked it, but we didn't love it. They said they get new stuff every month or so, so we will just have to keep going back and see if we can find something.

Going to Mexico...
Austin's best friend is getting married in Mexico in May and we just booked a week long trip to be there. We are flying in wednesday and leaving the following wednesday and staying here, at Dreams Tulum. Looking forward to it!

Jones update number 3
This will probably be the last I write about Jones and his heart issue, becuase things seem to be going well. His complete blood panel came back as 100% normal so it wasn't due to his thyroid. So, he is now on a heart medication for the rest of his life. I gave him his first pill today. Luckily, Jones is a VERY good eater and will eat pretty much anything, so I just shoved the pill into a moist treat and he ate it no problem. If we had to give a pill to George, that would be a whole different ball game. But it isn't.

So...things are ok. He's acting completely normal of course, and only mummy and daddy know that he has a problem which is good for him. We go to the vet in 3 weeks for a follow up. From what I gather, the medicine is very much like a blood pressure reducer (they even give the same medicine to people) so both Austin and Jones have their own pill box now :)

An update on Jones...
Went to see the cardiologist about Jones this afternoon. She did an ultrasound of his heart and determined that he has feline hypertrohpic cardiomyopathy, which is a nutshell is a form of heart disease. To spare the long details, the atrium of his left heart is thickening. If it continues without medication, it will continue to thicken and form scar tissue and fluid will build up and he would go into congestive heart failure due to fluid leaking into the lungs.

Right now, Jones disease isn't too bad, and they are not able to guess whether or not the disease will progress slowly or quickly. She recomends we go back and get another ultrasound and scan of his heart in 6 to 9 months to do the same measurements and that can give us an idea of how quickly it is progressing.

Jones also had an lump near his thyroid, so he had his bloodwork drawn and we should have the results tomorrow. If his thyroid is out of wack, this could be causing the problem with his heart. If his thyroid is normal, then he will go onto two medications for his heat, one would be a blood thinner to prevent blood clots as well as another one to help with the thickening of the heart wall.

She kept telling me that we caught this VERY early and there is plenty that can be done and that also most cats with the disease have an excellent quality of life and don't have any clue that they are sick. So that is good. She doesn't think that he will live to be a super old cat, like 20 years old, but thinks that as of now he will be with us for a long time still.

Jones did very well with the ultrasound and was a very good kitty. He wasn't impressed with going to the vet again so quickly but it's all over and he is back at home and relaxed.

So...good news. I am relieved that my litte adorable munchkin will continue to be with us for awhile and there are medications that we can give him to hopefully slow down the progression. I hardly slept at all last night just from the worry about what if. At least I know what we are dealing with.

The appointment has been made
Jones' appointment with the feline cardiologist (I still am in shock that my cat is going to a feline cardiologist) on monday afternoon. They were able to get us an appointment really fast so I'm really glad that I won't have to worry about what is gong on for too long. It's hard not to think about it and I'm trying to not let myself obsess about it...I started painting my scrapbook area to try to take my mind off of things becuase otherwise I just get really sad about my fur baby. I know some people think it's just a cat, but Jones and George really are my children, and I love them so much, as much as I would love I child I believe.

We went to the vet today for Jones annual check up. It didn't go very well. The vet noticed a heart murmer that was never there, and also an abnormal heart rythem. So we have to go see a feline cardiologist. They have to make the appointment for us, but it should be within the next 2-3 weeks max. I asked the vet if it WAS something, could it be controlled by medication or what (I immediatey thought I was going to lose Jones soon or something) and she said most likely yes, especially since we probalby caught whatever the issue was early and not to be overly concerned at this point yet but be concerned.

He also has been biting his hair away on his front left paw and I noticed a small scab. Turns out he has scabs all over his left paw. She shaved all of his fur on his right leg (which looks pretty funny) and gave me an ointment to put on it twice a day. She does not know what it is and hopes the ointment will help it heal. He doesnt have scabs anywhere else on his body.

He also lost a full pound in the last year, which for a cat is a pretty big deal! We think it is due to the new house and we notice both cats playing much more so and running up and down the stairs. Jones also is doing a lot more jumping onto counters and up on top of cabinets so he is definately more active.

So...hopefully we will know more in a few weeks.

My new haircut

I finally got a hair cut today after work. I've been growing my hair out for some time, and have been enjoying the convenience of wash and wear with my natural curls. However, it was getting fairly long and was lacking some style. I got a cut today and she put in some layers and it's shorter again...cute.

I did it!!! I really did...
I worked out tonight after work! I went to BodyPump, which is what Julie and I used to go to before she ditched me for a loft (ok ok we stopped going LONG before she even thought about deserting me and leaving Broomfield. But..that's not the point. The point is I put my work out gear into a bag and went on my way home. we may live RIGHT ACROSS the street from the Rec Center, but I was finding that once I got home it was hard to leave again and work out. So I just went straight from work, before going home. IT worked out well, and I'm glad I went, and I hope I can keep it up!!!

George Helping Daddy Sew Mommy's Jacket Buttons
Austin sewed the buttons back onto my jacket today, and George was SO interested in what was going on. It was the cutest thing.

My scrapbook corner today...
This is a pic of my scrapbook corner as it is today...any suggestions on what to do with it would be MUCH appreciated.

I dont know

I have been trying to figure out how to organize my scrapbook "corner" in our house. Most people seem to have these large craft rooms... I have a cute corner next to our laundry room. Austin put in a counter for me and I love it, but I need some ideas on how to store all of the "stuff" that accompanies scrapbooking like chipboard, stamps, inks, paints, rubons, ribbons, ebellishments, etc.

I came across this room and I love it. So cute!!!

Dinner tonight
In my desire to try to cook at home more often and eat more healthy and go out to dinner less, I have been looking for lots of easy new recipes I can cook after work. I've re-discovered my crock pot and am liking the ease of coming home and dinner is already ready. One of my issues is I HATE HATE HATE leftovers. I'd rather not eat than eat leftovers. Dum I know but...

So tonight I tried this recipe from Kraft Foods. It wasn't great. It had some potential, and I loved the broccoli in it but it just lacked something. Not sure quite what. It was pretty easy, but I wouldn't make it again.

Surgery went well...
Austin's surgery went well this morning. He had to have some sinus surgery done to relieve some of his breathing issues. He has been pretty nervous about the surgery as the days lead up to it, and both of us are glad it's done. It was the worst feeling to watch them roll him out of the room and out of my watchful eye. But, everything went well and he's back at home recovering. I think the next couple days will be less than great for him, but I think after he recovers he will be glad it's all over and done with.

10 Things Drivers Should Do in Case of an Accident
10 Things Drivers Should Do in Case of an Accident

Government and National Safety Council statistics report that millions of Americans are involved in traffic crashes each year. Here are 10 steps for your drivers to follow when they find themselves in a crash incident.
According to the latest available government figures, nearly 6.2 million police-reported motor vehicle crashes occurred on U.S. highways in 2005 — one every five seconds. And National Safety Council statistics report that some 20 million drivers — nearly 10 percent of all U.S. drivers — were involved in an auto accident in 2006.
In the face of such numbers, even the most careful driver can suddenly encounter bad luck on the road. What should drivers do when the inevitable happens? The following 10 steps will help drivers get through the immediate aftermath of a crash while helping cover their companies’ administrative and legal concerns.
1. STOP!When involved in a crash, however slight, do not leave the scene until speaking with the other driver, the police, or both.
2. Stay CalmRemain as calm as possible, avoid any inclination to react in anger, particularly when encountering another driver behaving irrationally.
3.Keep Safety FirstWhen involved in a minor accident with no serious injuries, move the vehicles and occupants safely to the side of the road, out of the way of traffic. If a vehicle cannot be moved and no injuries have occurred, drivers and passengers should remain in the vehicle with seat belts fastened until help arrives. Turn on hazard lights and if safe to do so, place cones, flares, or warning triangles.
4.Call for Medical AssistanceCall for emergency medical help if anyone involved in the crash is bleeding, feels lightheaded, or is suffering any physical injury. Always err on the side of caution and call for help. Unless someone at the scene is specifically trained in emergency medical procedures, wait until help arrives before attempting to move a person or perform emergency aid.
5.Contact the PoliceCalling the police from the crash site is the best action. If the driver cannot contact the local law enforcement, he or she should instruct someone else to do so. Police officers can address traffic infractions and take notes for the incident record.
6.Do Not Admit FaultDo not discuss specific details of the accident with anyone except the police. Be polite, but don’t admit fault to the other driver or the police, even if the driver’s actions led to the crash.
7.Contact Your EmployerCall the company fleet manager, the accident management company representative, or, if applicable, the insurance company as soon as possible. If your employer’s fleet policy mandates, file a state vehicle accident report. A police report often helps insurance companies speed up the claims process.
8.Photograph and Document the AccidentCarry a disposable camera in the car to photograph the damage to all vehicles involved. Include photos that reveal the overall context of the crash — road conditions, intersection site, traffic signs or lights, etc.
Record in writing all pertinent information concerning the incident, including:
· The Incident. The time and date, a description and exact location of the accident scene and any recollection of your vehicle’s handling or mechanical functioning immediately prior to the crash.
· Involved Parties. Names, addresses, telephone numbers, vehicle and driver’s license numbers, and insurance carriers.
· Witnesses. Names, addresses, and contact information.
· Police Officers. Names, badge numbers, where to obtain a copy of the police report, and issuance of any citations.
9.Be PreparedPlace in the vehicle glove compartment copies of such important documents as:
· Insurance company ID card.
· Valid vehicle registration.
· Medical alerts detailing personal allergy or health conditions that may require special attention if you are seriously injured.
Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle. At a minimum, this kit should include:
· Road flares or warning triangles.
· Brightly colored cloth to tie to the driver-side door.
· Disposable camera.
· Flashlight with fully charged batteries.
· First aid kit.
· Basic tool kit.
· Duct tape.
· Pad of paper and pen.
10.When Providing AssistanceIf the driver encounters an accident scene and wishes to offer immediate help, pull the vehicle off the road ahead of the crash site. Do not park in back of the accident; your vehicle will be vulnerable to traffic and could block the view of emergency or police vehicles as they arrive at the scene.
Determine first if anyone has sustained injuries and, if needed, immediately call for medical assistance

27 Dresses
Julie and I went to see 27 Dresses today. It was a sneak peak downtown. We had lunch, caught up, and watched the movie. It was a fun afternoon! The movie was cute, and makes me wish I could be a bridesmaid! Just once (I've never been a bridesmaid!!!). But I'd want a cute dress...

eye opening article
It's not a big secret that I'm fat. I know it, and I'd like to change that, but it's harder than one thinks. This article is quite the eye opener...and sure makes me think about some of my poor choices I make when I eat. Granted, I don't usually eat the items on the list, but it makes me think about what I do eat and the calories that are in what I shove into my mouth. No wonder I'm fat.

Here is the link to the article.

Sniffles
When my parents came up to visit us for Christmas, they brought a cold with them (ya, I know...who gets a cold in Mexico of all places?). My mom was sick for a few days, then my dad was sick for a few days, and the last 2 days of their trip I started to feel crummy and felt sick too. They are feeling 100% now and are back sunning themselves in Mexico, and Austin and I are stuck with sniffles that aren't going away. I'm getting pretty annoyed with the constant sniffles.

Work is riddiculously busy. We hired another person, (so now we are only down one) but it's still so crazy busy. The one good thing is my days fly by and before I know it it's the weekend again and I can catch up on sleep and take some naps during the day. In fact, tonight I came home and fell asleep on the couch after work. Hopefully this won't mean that I have a problem falling asleep tonight.

Austin is going in for nose surgury next wednesday. He is pretty nervous about it. I think it will be beneficial for him to get it but I think his recovery will be less than fun. The closer it gets, the more both of us get nervous about it. I'm ready for it to be over so we can both stop thinking about it.

oh...
and we took down the chirstmas lights outside. Christmas really IS officially over!!!

Another weekend bites the dust
Weekends go by WAY too quickly for my liking. It's sunday night, and I am starting to get my head around going back to a full week of work tomorrow morning. I worked 3 days last week, and it sure was hard to get up in the morning after spending 9 days of sleeping in late.

Happy New Year!
Welcome to 2008! We had an extremely uneventful new years. Helped Austin's best friend move into his new house. they had movers, but there were only 2 of them, who were pretty much useless. I'd bet I could carry more than they could, and I am severely overweight. We helped until 9:30 last night and then came home, I'm still feeling sick from the bug my parents brought up from Mexico when they came to visit. They still had another trip to make in the truck, I'd bet they were moving well past midnight. Yuck. Moving sucks. I went to bed at 11, and woke up this morning nicely rested.

Happy New Year to all of my readers...may 2008 bring you all of your hopes and wishes, and mine as well!
