ta da!
I am going at 1:30 today to go get my hair cut and get my hair colored and highlighted. I've been growing my hair out and it is below my shoulders now (and the longest my hair has EVER been in my entire life). At this time I usually cut my hair short becuase I'm sick and tired of dealing with it. I am liking it long, and since my hair turned curly all of a sudden it's been nice to be able to just wear it curly on days I don't want to blow dry it.
We went to see the movie BABY MAMA this afternoon. It was cute, definately had some funny moments to it where I laughed out loud. I thought the movie was rated R, so I was expecting a bit more crude comedy, but it was still entertaining.
Otherwise, we have a quiet weekend ahead of us, which is never a bad thing. It's cold in Denver, and we are forecast to get some snow today. That's spring in Denver...

I had a dentist appointment this morning to get a cavity filled. I absolutely detest the dentist, I had a bad experience a good 8 years ago and have been petrified of the dentist ever since. I've had a ton of dental work done, just due to bad teeth I guess (because I actually am really good about brushing and flossing). Anyways, it's all over and done with now.
We have a big software update tonight for the permitting package I manage. I hope it goes well. I've been really nervous and worked up about it. It doesn't help that I'm pretty burned out at work...working two jobs with just me wore me out over 5 months.

Please don’t water down the hand soap in the CD kitchen. I believe that full strength soap works much better on germs and dirt and whatever else one may have on their hands. I purchased a gigantic refill several months ago and it is under the cabinet, and do not mind buying another one when that one gets low.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Austin and I had our first spanish lesson tonight. I was amazed at how much Austin remembered from high school and college which was a good 10 years ago. I have always had a knack for picking up languages (dutch, french and german) and I figured that I'd have no problems with spanish. I think i'll get there, but it certainly was a different experience having to translate in my head. I'm so used to actually thinking in dutch or french that it was causing me some difficulty. It was fun though, so I'm looking forward to next week. And it's nice that Austin and I are doing this together so we can practice. Mission this week is to learn/memorize days of the week, numbers, the basics. I suck at memory, so I'm just going to have to keep practicing over and over and over
Tonight Austin made me blueberry pancakes for dinner. He had a leftover hamburger (and I'm not a big burger fan..ground beef disgusts me) and I asked him with my sweet voice to make me some pancakes. There are leftovers and I plan to eat those tomorrow at lunch. I came home from work for lunch today (work is only 15 minutes away so I got to spend 1/2 hour at home and it was delightful!). So I think tomorrow I'll eat pancakes for lunch :)
Speaking of tomorrow, we start our 5 week learn Spanish class. It's a quick class that is supposed to teach us phrases and basics for travelling in Mexico. Being that my parents have a house in Puerto Vallarta and live there for half the year, we figured it might be fun to learn some Spanish. Austin took Spanish in high school and college but I never took it, I never really imagined I'd ever be living in the US of A! But here I am...
I ordered some bathing suits online and they arrived today. Some looked terrible, but there were a few that weren't bad at all. I doubt I'm going to lose 50 pounds in a month. Although it sure would be nice.
work has been stressful as of late. Not something I really care to go into on a public blog, but it's definately stressing me out. And I'm burned out, so I am really looking forward to our week away in Mexico.

Why is is that our cats LOVE to lie on our clean laundry...they have an entire king bed to sleep on and feel the need to BOTH sleep on the tinest folded towels ever.
I'm taking a quick break from working from home. Yes, I realize it's saturday night and it's 10 pm. Among one of the many things that are part of my job duties, one includes testing software releases for our building permit system and maintaining the software. We are going to push a large upgrade soon and so I want to make sure that nothing has changed too drastically. The people at my work FREAK OUT when they see something new or something has changed, so no matter what it will still be chaos but I still like to know as much as possible to try to deflate some of the fear that happens when there is a new release. So far so good, and I'm pretty happy with what I see so far.
Anywhoo, back to the grind...
Anywhoo, back to the grind...
I had a wonderful birthday! My co-workers decorated my cube and went WAY overboard. They bought gifts, balloons, and even brought a cake and made breakfast. I worked out after work, and then went out to dinner with Austin and two friends. Good times! 31 is shaping up to be a great year so far!!!
I work for a building division and review and issue building permits. We got this letter from the International Code Council and thought it was important enough to put out there to educate people...
How sad that people are being taken advantage of...
Warnings Issued about Phony Building Re-Inspection Letters
[Source: http://www.news10.net | April 2, 2008]
On the heels of the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina in the Gulf Coast region, government and code officials warned homeowners about a likely wave of contractor scams.
In Powhatan, Virginia, local law enforcement officials warned residents to bar individuals claiming to be building inspectors from entering residences to take measurements, in a scam where money and other valuable possessions were being stolen.
Homeowners in Ypsilanti Township, Michigan, many of whom are senior citizens, received phone calls from people claiming to be building inspectors and asking permission to inspect their basements for signs of water damage.
Now, in Modesto, California, city officials are warning residents about a suspicious letter mailed on re-created letterhead from the city's Building Inspection Division.
The letter falsely claims that construction permits have not been completed for residents' homes and that a building department representative must re-inspect contractor's work on their homes for a fee. The $350 fee must be paid prior to a visual test inspection involving checking base flooring, opening sheetrock and pulling baseboards. The phony letter is signed "Matthew Lape." The City says there is no Matthew Lape in its employment and the letter was not created nor sent by the City of Modesto's Community and Economic Department, which houses the Building Inspection Division.
Unfortunately, scams such as these usually show up in multiple cities. If it can happen to them, it can happen to you. With Building Safety Week approaching in May, this is an excellent opportunity to touch base with community residents.
What You and Your Department Can Do:
Urge anyone with questions about the validity of a construction permit letter they may have received to contact their local building department.
Advise residents that no county building inspectors, assessors, etc., would enter a residence nor would they have a need to, with the exception of a building under construction. Residents should not allow unknown persons into their home for inspection purposes.
Urge residents against providing personal information in unsolicited sales activity related to home repair or construction. Building officials and inspectors do not make such unsolicited telephone calls and it is likely these calls are a fraudulent home repair scam.
Advise residents to report suspicious phone calls related to home repair or construction to both their local building department and law enforcement agency.

Last night, Austin took me out to dinner to THE KEG, which is a steakhouse based out of Canada and has a few locations in the US (two in Colorado!!!). Growing up, we went quite frequently to the KEG as it was one of my mom's favorite restaurants, so it's always a fun treat to be able to go down here now. It's my birthday on monday (tomorrow) and since it's on a week day it's hard to celebrate during the week. I'll be at work tomorrow, and then Heidi and I are going to a new excercise class that starts at the Rec Center and then we are going out to dinner to Nine75. I'm looking forward to it, should be a good day.
Austin is assembling the carpet cleaner vaccum I received from my parents for my birthday. A bit of an odd birthday present but I am excited. We have only been in the new house for a year but our carpet is so stained already....so it will be nice to have it cleaned. And once we have kids, having a carpet cleaner is always a good thing. Plus, we have cats who puke, and when they do, it must always be on the carpet and not on some easy to clean surface.

I am a baking fool tonight. I am attending a bridal shower for Austin's best friend and am making two cakes, peanut butter cookies, and tortilla pinwheels for the shower. One cake is almost done baking, another cake is ready to go in the oven, and I am waiting for my mixing bowl to finish cleaning in the dishwasher and then I can do the pinwheels.
I LOVE baking :)

The Office is back. I love that show! Austin and I must have laughed out loud AT LEAST 10 times in a half an hour. Good stuff!
I had some blood work done a few weeks ago, and got the results a few days ago. Everything was normal. No biggie, right? Except I got a bill from the lab stating that my insurance company denied the claim based on the way the doctor coded the reasoning for the lab work, which isn't covered by my medical insurance. So, last night when I saw that, I freaked out. I don't have $800 bucks, well I do but I don't want to spend it on tests that should have been covered. Anyways, I talked to my doctors office and they will have to write a letter to the lab stating they made an error and ask the lab to re-submit the claim to the insurance company. What a pain. But...luckily I won't have to shell out that $800 bucks on something like lab work.
We've had nothing but problems with this insurance company. I've had to dispute two claims already, and have a third under way. Great West is no good. It seems they just don't cover things and wait until one disputes it and then they will pay the bill.
And being that I'm Canadian, I'm used to the Canadian Health Care system, which has it's issues but at least everything is covered and everyone has health care.

We are grilling some steaks tonight on the barbie and having a few friends over. Should be a good time :)
I stocked up on a ton of steaks at safeway today...and my foodsaver isnt working. the sealing strip has been causing me issues..and it finally stopped sealing when i tried to vacuum food save the first ones. I just ordered another one off amazon...that 110 bucks is painful but I love my foodsaver.
This post is for Laura...lover of all things bacon related.
Me...I'm neither here nor there about Bacon, and if I have it it has to be baked crisp, some say burnt.
The next big thing in breakfast meats: The bacon bra
