We are home!

Posted on Friday, February 26, 2010
Our family of four is now complete as a family as five (two parents, two cats, and one baby!). We came home this afternoon around 2 pm and are trying to settle into a new environment again. After a 12 hour induction/labor and 3 hours of hard core pushing, Molly Grace was born Wednesday night at 7:47 pm weighing in at 6 lbs 14 ounces and 19 1/2 inches. She is absolutely PERFECT and the most beautiful thing I have ever set my eyes on. We struggled with breastfeeding but are getting the hang of it and she has spent a lot of today eating.

Austin has been INCREDIBLE throughout this whole time and I am SO thankful for him. I couldn't ask for a better partner to help parent our little tiger...

Thanks for everyone's well wishes send through email. I'll post some pictures of our little tiger tomorrow once i get settled in a bit more at home!

A very proud (and tired!) mommy.

Wednesday is THE day

I went to see my doctor again just to make sure everything was still ok with the baby in utero and with me. After spending about 3 hours there getting poked, proded, monitored, and ultrasounded, I am happy to report that all still looks well and we are still scheduled to be induced on wednesday morning beginning at 6 am. I am now 3 cm dialated and 75 percent effaced so my doctor has high hopes things will go well with the induction since I have a favororable cervix. Yea for favorable cervixes!!!

I still have VERY high amniotic fluid (which explains why my belly is so stinking big) and when she goes to break my water she said it could very well be similar to the release of the hoover dam lol. But everything looks good otherwise and they think she is just under 7 pounds at this point.

So what are you doing on Wednesday?

Baby update

Posted on Wednesday, February 17, 2010
I went to the doctor today for my 37 week OB appointment. I was curious to see what I was in for after the excitement of last week's appointment and unexpected trip to labor and delivery. Unfortunately my blood pressure is still high and I still have swelling in my hands and feet, so the doctor decided that it was time to schedule an induction and that will begin next Wednesday at 6 am. EEEEK! A drug will be used called pitocin to start uterine contractions and hopefully within a few hours our daughter will make her arrival!!!

IN A WEEK I AM GOING TO BE A MOM (to more than just furr babies aka the cats!). I'm excited, scared, nervous, elated, happy, thrilled, worried (to just name a few emotions). She will be 2 weeks early, but I'm so enormous I'm pretty ok with getting this baby out of me with how big I am.

Wow!!!

An unplanned visit to Labor and Delivery

Posted on Sunday, February 14, 2010
I've been struggling to write this post since Wednesday, when I had my 36 week OB appointment with the doctor. I was anticipating a very normal appointment, although Austin came with me because the doctor was going to go over when we should call them when contractions started etc.

A normal appointment is NOT what we got. After a blood pressure check and weight check, my doctor told us that I needed to go to the hospital and get monitored by labor and delivery right away, as she was concerned with my huge weight gain in 2 weeks (which is all water weight), swelling, and high blood pressure. Apparently she was worried about pre-eclampsia. 3 hours in labor and delivery, and we were sent home and everything is OK with both me and our baby. I was SO glad Austin was there with me, because I was scared. If I did indeed have pre-eclampsia, they would have delivered the baby that NIGHT.

I've been taking it easy ever since. I'm definitely feeling uncomfortable, enormous, and quite swollen just due to water retention (which is normal in the last few weeks of pregnancy).

My next appointment is on Wednesday, and we'll evaluate where things are at that point. In other news, I was already 2 cm dilated (have to go to 10 cm) and 50 percent effaced. So my body is already STARTING to prepare to get this baby out...which is a great sign that things should happen in the next 1-3 weeks :)

36 weeks

Posted on Wednesday, February 10, 2010
I have my 36 week appointment this afternoon at 4 and I am hoping that we will see some type of labor progress of some sort. Part of me feels there actually could be some progress, and then another part of me thinks that I'll just be disapointed. I'm in the home stretch, and I am ready (I think!) to get this show on the road. Mostly, I'm just ready for the pregnancy to be complete and move onto the next stage, the one that I don't know too much about yet. I'm a type of person who deals much better with known things and dates and plans. Unfortunately I don't KNOW when this baby girl is going to arrive. I know, parenthood is full of unknowns and I might as well start dealing with that now, but I'm ready to move onto the next stage, the state of meeting my daughter and caring for her. It's hard to stay concentrated at work and motivated knowing that in 3 short weeks (or less!!!) we will have a new addition to our household.

I came across this from a website and thought it was interesting data...

At the beginning of week 38, -2 weeks before the due date-, 2 out of 10 women already gave birth.

At the beginning of week 39, -1 week before the due date-, 4 out of 10 women gave birth.

At the beginning of week 40, -the due date-, 7 out of 10 women gave birth.

At the beginning of week 41, -1 week after the due date- 9 out of 10 women gave birth.

Baby's room

We finally have made some good progress on the baby's room and it no longer is this big disaster zone.

Check it out!

Taxes

Posted on Monday, February 08, 2010
We had our taxes for 2009 done over the weekend. Both of us were hoping for a NICE big refund, partially becuase we both claim zero dependents and also because we took another (as usual) financial hit on our stupid rental property since we were one month without a renter, plus we spent several thousand dollars re-habing the property so it could be re-rented.

Turns out, we owe a small amount to the federal government and get a small amount back from the State of Colorado. Once we pay the tax preparation fees, we pretty much break even. Whoopity doo.

I'm bummed. Fricken taxes man.

Hospital tour summary

Posted on Saturday, February 06, 2010
We had our hospital tour Wednesday night at Exempla Good Samaritan and got our paperwork filled out for admission and started the birth certificate. The tour was good, their labor/delivery rooms are huge, and were nice. Although my plan of attack is to get in, and get OUT of the hospital as quickly as possible. I'm not a big fan of hospitals and I'd rather recover at home when possible in the comfort of my own house.

Today we have an apppointment to have our taxes done, and then are meeting with Jason and Julie for dinner. Looking forward to that (the dinner, not the tax appointment!).

I'm watching the kitten and George chase each other through the house and play. It's such a cute thing to see.

twins?

Posted on Wednesday, February 03, 2010
I have had three different people ask me today if I was having twins (or in one case, triplets). Nope, I'm just as big as a house. One guy even asked ARE YOU SURE. Yep....pretty sure there is only one in there. My excess amniotic fluid is definately making me quite uncomfortable, and obviously as big as a house.

Blogger update

Posted on Wednesday, February 03, 2010
Yesterday I got an email from blogger saying that I needed to make some changes to my blog due to some FTP issues and what have you. All MUCH above my head. Long story short, I'm going to have to get a new template design. I have a new temporary one that is easy to use, but in the coming month Austin is going to migrate me over to a new blog template so stay tuned (and make sure you use your RSS feeds!).

In other news, I also want to start a new blog for friends and family to keep up to date with the going's on of Miss Molly Grace. I'm still trying to come up with a decent blog name.

How to sound like a Canadian

Posted on Wednesday, February 03, 2010
One of our local news stations has been running a commercial to advertise the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. They visited the Canadian Consulate and want to know how to "sound" like a Canadian.

Depending on my mood, sometimes I find this ad annoying, and sometimes it just makes me homesick. Gotta love pregnancy hormones :)

Hospital tour tonight

Posted on Wednesday, February 03, 2010
Tonight we have our hospital tour and "pre-registration". Kinda curious to see a bit more of the hospital and get our paperwork filled out so that when I'm in the middle of labor and contractions I don't have to worry about filling out stupid paperwork and deal with insurance questions. I made the appointment several months ago, just after I hit 20 weeks and it seemed like SO far away. And now it's here. Craziness. Time really does fly. In a month (or less!) I should be holding my daughter in my arms. I'm anxious to meet her, and get to know her personality and mannerisms etc.

I'm also really curious to see what traits she will get from Austin, and what she will get from me. Being that I was adopted right at birth, it's interesting that people say "oh you look just like your dad" or "you are SO like your mom". Those are all learned traits. Just becuase one isn't blood related doesn't mean they don't learn things from their parents. But I am curious to see if our baby will have small stubby toes like me, or a big nose, or will have Austin's long eyelashes and patient personality.

the bag

Posted on Tuesday, February 02, 2010
In my desire to have everything organized and attempt to remain calm, cool and collected with the upcoming birth of our daughter, I created my "hospital bag" content list, complete with columns for already packed and still needs to be packed (for items that I use on a daily basis like my IPHONE and charging cable but don't want to forget). At first I thought it was a little much to create a list thinking what's the big deal, I'll remember all of this stuff but then as I started typing stuff up I realized that it is a good idea I've gone and done this becuase chances are once contractions start I won't remember a darn thing.
