Molly's 6 month doctors appointment went really well, and she did well with her shots. She is still doing very well and growing growing growing! She is 16 1/2 pounds (59% percentile) 26 1/2 inches in length (71%!!!) and her head circumference was normal 51%. How we have such a long baby neither one of us have any idea but ok! What the doctor found very interesting is that Molly has stayed at the same percentiles since she was about a month old, which is fairly unique. Most babies fluctuate. And she's doing SO well for a baby who was born in the 7th percentile for weight initially. Took her 7 days to get up to 30%.

Molly is so much fun these days. She laughs and smiles and is a bundle of energy. She enjoys being outside and going places and watching the world around her. She is having so much fun at daycare and watching the other kids. I picked her up early on thursday afternoon and she sat in my arms outside and spent a good hour just laughing at the other kids as they played. How fun!

She's babbling, and is starting to sit (but still needs support) and is started scooting on her back. Before we know it, she'lll become mobile and our lives will change quite drastically.

Life is good with Molly! Really really good!

Last night on Vancouver Island. We've had a lot of fun, and Molly has charmed her grandparents and was as cute as she could be.

Here is a picture of Molly sticking her toes in the ocean for the first time...fun times!

I attended an archivers class on how to work with canvas. The class taught us how to use embelishments and paper and create art using canvas blocks and some coordinated scrapbook paper. I love how this one turned out!

It was so nice to be outside and enjoying the beautiful Colorado mountains and Molly seemed to enjoy it as well. The first time we headed up to Nederland and enjoyed sandwiches by a reservoir. Next time we'll do a bit of a hiike, but I didn't bring sunscreen or a hat for Molly so we had to cut things short a bit...

We tried to go 2 weeks ago, but there was flash flood warnings for small streams so it didn't seem like a good idea to go sit next to a stream in that case. And last weekend we were attending a kids get together so that was a no go too. Doubtful we will go this weekend as we will be packing since we leave monday. But we'll continue to try to go each weekend :)

long time no post

Wow, a lot of time has passed since my last post. It's primarily due to a switch in hours at work. We now work four 10 hour days (from 7 am until 6 pm) and have every friday off. At first i thought the schedule would be awful, but I have to admit having friday off was pretty fun, especially since I keep Molly home from daycare. Granted, it's only been 1 week (this is our 2nd "focussed" work week schedule) and so I'm almost done with working my week and will be off again.

Last friday Molly and I met some mommys and their friends at the outdoor pool nearby and had a BLAST. It was so nice hanging out with moms who have babies Molly's age and we chatted and had a blast. The babies all got into the water (they have a nice shallow baby pool) and Molly enjoyed that too, splashing and kicking away. So fun to see. We all had so much fun we are going to do it again tomorrow!

We leave on monday for a 6 day trip to Vancouver Island to visit my parents. It will be Molly's first trip on an airplane, bus, and ferry. I am not too worried about the travel, she is a mellow baby and she enjoys watching new things so it should be ok. She'll get to visit grandma and grandpa beckman, who haven't seen her since she was 3 weeks old. she's so much more fun and interactive so that should be fun for them as well.

I'm at an offsite meeting today in the mountains, and should be done by 4 pm. So shortly i will be off work and on vacation until August 21st. Whoo hoo!

Life is good.

4 months old!

Posted on Saturday, July 10, 2010

Molly turned FOUR months old on June 24th (I'm a bit behind in my blogging...work and home life has been busy as of late!)

Molly had her 4 month shots last week and is doing extremely well. Growing well!!! She was 14 pounds 4 ounces and 25 inches in length. That's 58th percentile for weight and 78!!!th percentile for height. Where she gets the height from, we have no idea!

She met all of her developmental milestones and her next appointment will be at 6 months, right after we come back from visiting Grandma and Grandpa Beckman in Canada.

She is VERY much into shoving everything into her mouth these days, including the sign that we made for her to announce that she was four months old!!!

Booked our trip to Holland

Posted on Thursday, July 01, 2010
I finally booked our airline tickets to Holland in October to celebrate my aunt's 70th birthday with her. Pretty excited about the trip, it's always fun to visit my family out there and now they can meet Molly. It will have been 2 years since our last trip to Holland, too long but we only have so much vacation time (and money!). We are flying Delta/KLM, which will be my first time flying Delta. I have flown NWA/KLM a lot on my previous trips to Holland, but with the merger earlier this year it will be interesting to see how the two compare. We reserved a bassinet for Molly so hopefully that will make travelling with her a bit easier. She's an easy going baby so I don't anticipate too many issues but she WILL be mobile by 8 months (crawling for sure) so the flights should be interesting.

SO excited. I put a ticker to the right of the screen counting down to our Holland trip as well.

Molly had her first injury today. Well, I've bonked her head twice (by accident) in the middle of the night taking her to change her diaper but they were minor bonks (although I still feel pretty awful about it). She hit her head at daycare and I got the call just before 4 pm that I needed to come and pick her up and evaluate if she needed to go to the doctor. My stomache just dropped as I raced to my car and drove the 5 minutes from my work to her house. She had a pretty big bump on her head, it was swollen and all sorts of colors, but she was happy as can be (unless you put the ice on it to ice it down, she HATED that) and was all smiley. The swelling went down and there is only a slight little bump now. She's doing just fine tonight. Our poor daycare provider, she's been taking care of kids for 20 years but you could tell she really felt awful about this one.

Canada here we come!!

Posted on Tuesday, June 15, 2010
The Montgomery's are travelling to Canada! Whoo hoo! We are headed to Vancouver Island in August and bringing Molly. My parents came out when Molly was 2 1/2 weeks old, but she just slept, pooped, and ate. But now she's so much more fun so we are looking forward to having her spend some time with her Grandma and Grandpa :)

We got her passport back in the mail, and we booked our flights. Yahoo. I was in Canada last year, but for Austin it's been about 5 years. Craziness. We can't wait!!! I've added a ticker on the right hand side of the screen to countdown of the trip...

Your 3-month-old: Week 2

Posted on Thursday, June 03, 2010
Your baby's goos and gurgles are probably going strong, but now she's also making consonant sounds, sputtering Ps and Bs and Ms and Ls. That's where the first "ma-ma" and "da-da" will come from. At first, she won't associate these sounds with any particular meaning (although you certainly will) — they're just easiest for her to make. (Interesting fact: In any language, the equivalents of "Mama" and "Dada" are common first words.)

Babies simply love to be touched. In fact, they thrive on it — touch is a critical part of growth and development. All that skin-to-skin contact not only helps you and your baby bond, but it's comforting when she's upset and soothing when she's irritable.Nurture your baby's sense of touch with a variety of materials, such as fake fur, felt, and terry cloth. Your baby will probably try to eat everything, so choose carefully and don't leave her alone with anything that could come apart in her mouth. Look for books like Pat the Bunny that make reading a tactile experience.

Coordinating arms, legs, and hands
Your baby can now wave her arms and pump her legs. And as her hip and knee joints become more flexible, her kicks are getting stronger. Hold her upright with her feet on the floor and feel her push down.Your baby can also bring both hands together and open and close her fingers. Encourage her eye-hand coordination by holding out a toy to see if she'll reach for it. (Yes, swatting at a toy is a developmental milestone!) Just be sure to move that mobile out of your baby's reach, because she may be able to bring it crashing down before too long.

It may even make her more alert and help her have a longer attention span. For a simple baby massage, find a warm, flat surface to lay your baby on — a blanket on a carpeted floor is fine. Pour a little baby oil or vegetable oil in your palms and rub your hands together to warm them and the oil. Look into your baby's eyes, and sing or talk to her as you do the massage.Pay attention to your baby's response: If she doesn't seem to be enjoying herself, try a lighter or heavier touch, or simply stop. No need to know about special strokes, either. All she needs is your gentle touch.
